The 2013 Christmas Checklist

Reblogged from BookLikes:

Are you ready for Christmas time? Well, it's high time, it's one week left! Make sure your gifts are wrapped, shirts ironed, bellies empty and books ready.  We've prepared a checklist, just to make sure.

Have you managed to find gifts for all your loved ones? If you still have no clue what to buy for Christmas, here are several things that can be found on every book lovers' gift list (Spotted on Silver Thistle. See more gifts for book lovers: 20 Gift Giving Ideas for Book Lovers...).

Dear Santa, here's our list: Bookopoly board game (read, play and have fun!), bookish phone charger and bloody good bookmark! (click image to go to blog)

Book-love found some more which could be divided into gifts in modern style: bookish lamp, book-scented perfume and Macbook Book-Case (we're sure it will fit others too), and more romantic with the spirit of the past: Penguin classic-inspired matchboxes, book-scented candle and personalized library embosser. And there's more here: 24 Insanely Clever Gifts For Book Lovers. (click the image to go to blog)

If you still don't feel like it's Christmas, we encourage you to try some craft projects which will put you in Christmas spirit and bring new decorations for your home and Christmas tree. Themis-Athena's Garden of Books found 7 Bookish Craft Projects to Put You in the Christmas Spirit (click images to go to blog).

Don't forget about Christmas Tree. It doesn't have to be huge or real tree, remember to make it look special. Here are some hints from Books2day and Expendable Mudge Muses Aloud how to make it extraordinary (click images to go to blogs).

Christmas time and family dinners require smart style. But don't resign from your individual look. Dress accurately to situation but with bookish touch :-)

And this all meas more reading time (after you cope with all Christmas duties)! You can follow December releases spotted by Debbie (see really impressive list of December new books here: December New Releases):

Do it on your own risk, though. The animals might not see your idea as "super-duper-funny-oh-you-look-so-cute!". Then just run ;-)

P.S. If you don't celebrate Christmas. Just hang in there and survive. We send you warms hugs. Find a peaceful place without jingle bells and all the blinks. Our survival winter kit can be useful as well: blanket, hot tea with raspberry marmalade and a good book in your hand. And enjoy your free time.

Winter Hugs for all ;-)

I Really Need to Finish This Book

Time is running out. I have a self-imposed deadline for releasing book 4 by Dec 24th. After a particularly tedious day of house cleaning and listening to drivel from a bigot, and making a huge "breakfast for dinner" customozed for each of the five of us, I have a seriously major headache. (Did I mention that when I was heating ham and onion for my omelette, I went to sprinkle garlic salt and it POURED? Bye bye delicious omelette...)  I should still try to wrap this chapter up, but I'm really temped to go bury my nose in my kindle instead.

A CROSSROADS

Well, it happened. During the night I decided I feel compelled to wirte a very brief 1000 word "essay" about grass. I need to finish penning the 4th in my series, though, before I begin. Or perhaps I'll incorporate it into said novel? Darnit.

THE BIG SHERRY BACH WRITING CHALLENGE

By now, rumors are spreading that I was challenged to a writing contest and refused. Yes, it's true. Author Sherry Bach did challenge me to a writing challenge and I did decline.

Why on earth would I decline this invitation to dual by keyboard? It's probably self explanatory, but here goes.

My writing began for myself. It still is for myself, but has branched out to writing for my readers and fans, as well as writing for my family (in order to take care of them). I do not, nor have I ever, claimed to "be a better writer" than anyone else. I would never be that full of myself. I, if anything, readily admit that I am not formally trained nor do I have a huge history of writing experience. If memory serves me correctly, the last English class I took was Eng. 101 about 19 or 20 years ago. I first began writing novels less than two years ago. My work is flawed. Some people do not like my writing. Some love it. It's a part of me now; something I have to do, almost as much as I need to breathe. I have nothing to prove to anyone. So, when another author said "I could write you under the table," of course I declined to "name my contest." Who is to say which of us is the "better writer?" Certainly not me. My time is much better spent working on my own writing (which at the moment includes three novels and one novella). I suppose it all really boils down to this: Sherry Bach can claim to be a better author than me. I find the statement to be irrelevant (and rather arrogant).

On Writing

Sometimes, it's all just :

New Starts

Today is a very special day. For more than a month, we have slowly transitioned from a house we rented into our new (purchased!) home. The manufactured home we leased for the past three years was very very small and while it was our home and a place of peace and joy for our family, it's in need of a lot of work. When we moved in, our new landlord (while a really nic elady) wasn;t prepared to paint, or even clean the carpet. Long story short, the carpet was full of cigarette smoke and pet urine. In order to extend the 2 year lease to 3, we asked if we could remove the carpet and replace the floors at our expense. Excited to move in, we ended up ripping out the unhealthy carpet, painting the subfloor, and living on area rugs. Doing the right thing, we replaced those areas inthe past few days with recycled laminate "wood" floors and carpet. Between doing the floors, cleaning, and moving our personal items out we're beat. Midnight last night marked our first day in our new home WITHOUT having the rental to worry about. Our lease id done and so is our work there!

Today we go to a new to us church for the first time.

Today is my first day of no longer being employed by someone else. I am now focusing on my family and writing full time.

Today we spend as a family, decorating for Christmas, and being lazy.

Today is a good day!

CHRISTMAS!

In a brand new (1949) home just in time for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and CHRISTMAS! My mom was a sweetheart today and drove out and her and my kids put up lighted garlands on my porch rails. I am sooooo turning them on tonight!  Why? Cause I can. :-)  Will my husband be home with the extension cord in time to light them before THE WALKING DEAD airs? We shall see...we shall see...

They look much better in person :)
